PAeryllMate was named after my wife, Aeryll, and built around her real-world needs. Like many in rota-based jobs, she needed a way to store her schedule, calculate her expected salary in advance, and reconcile it against her payslip, all without depending on Excel or manual notes.
The first version appeared in August 2024 as an Excel sheet. By February 2025, while learning Python, I created a simple desktop app using Tkinter. It worked, but it lacked a database, meaning every rota change required starting over, and it only ran on my laptop. Productivity was limited, and the idea needed to evolve.
That’s where PAeryllMate was truly born. Now rebuilt as a web-based app, it gives her the freedom to update shifts, view forecasts, and track pay directly from her mobile. What began as a personal tool has grown into a payroll companion designed to make forecasting and reconciliation effortless.
PAeryllMate was designed with one person in mind — my wife, Aeryll. Her daily challenges with rota-based work shaped every feature of the system. The app provides a clear way to record shifts, forecast monthly salary, and reconcile final pay against actual payslips, all without relying on spreadsheets or guesswork.
At its core, the system uses a default hourly rate, specific shift hours, and UK tax codes to calculate projected income. This ensures that even before payday, she can budget monthly expenses and plan savings with confidence.
While this version was built to meet her personal requirements, the framework is expandable. Given the opportunity, the same logic can be linked to individual user profiles allowing multiple employees to store their unique rosters, hourly rates, and tax codes while enjoying the same seamless payroll forecasting experience.
Behind the scenes, PAeryllMate is powered by a Flask backend with Jinja templating for dynamic pages, SQLAlchemy for database integration, and custom logic for rota and payroll calculations. The interface combines HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to deliver an interactive experience, ensuring that payroll forecasting feels lightweight, modern, and accessible from any device.
Managing rota-based payroll isn’t just about numbers.It’s about trust, clarity, and financial planning.
For employees, being able to forecast income before payday means confidence in managing bills, savings, and family commitments.
For HR and employers, it reduces disputes, improves transparency, and strengthens employee engagement.
